Archer Mete Gazoz brings Turkey its first gold in Tokyo 2020

Turkish archer Mete Gazoz won the gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games by defeating Italian Mauro Nespoli in the final (6-4).

The final competition took place on July 31, the eighth day of the Olympics.

On his way to the men’s singles finals, Gazoz outclassed athletes from Luxembourg, Australia, the United States and Japan.

Mete Gazoz was personally congratulated by the Minister of Youth and Sports of Turkey Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoglu.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also congratulated the Olympic champion in a telephone conversation.

The Turkish Olympic team has three medals (1 gold, 2 bronze).

The current Tokyo Olympics were supposed to take place from July 24 to August 9, 2020. Due to the pandemic, the competitions were postponed for a year, they will last until August 8.

The organizers decided to hold the Games without foreign fans, and local spectators are not allowed to Olympic events in six Japanese prefectures, including Tokyo.
