According to AFP News Agency on January 14, RedNote’s downloads skyrocketed and topped the App Store’s download list on January 13.
RedNote, whose Chinese name is Xiao Hong Shu, is becoming increasingly popular in the US as many TikTok creators begin posting about their experiences trying out the app. Some people even shared videos welcoming creators and users to “migrate” from TikTok to RedNote.
Despite efforts to appeal the verdict until the last days, TikTok and parent company ByteDance (China) currently have less than a week to decide whether to divest TikTok in the US or accept that this application will be banned, after the Court The US Supreme Court still decided not to change the law passed by Congress.
RedNote’s format is similar to TikTok when users focus on developing short videos. A small problem is that this application uses Chinese language, so it will require some operations to switch to English for users in the US.
Although RedNote is an emerging application in the US, the platform has been around since 2013 and has been popular in China for many years, becoming a competitor to ByteDance’s Douyin social network.
RedNote is not the only choice for TikTok alternatives. Another ByteDance application, Lemon8, recorded a surge in downloads. However, Lemon8 is likely to share the same fate of being banned if the US Supreme Court supports the stance of President Joe Biden’s administration.
The Flip video application, described as “where social networking meets shopping” also attracted attention on the App Store and CH Play app stores. This application was developed by Humans Company (headquartered in Los Angeles, USA), with short video features integrated with an online store. Currently this application is ranked 14th on Google’s store and 4th on Apple’s App Store. Humans last year was valued at more than $1 billion, according to the site Crunchbase.
