New Delhi.

It is going to take about a month and a half for America to withdraw its army from Afghanistan. Meanwhile, there was no meeting between the governments of the two countries or their representatives. Now the US itself has taken the initiative to hold a meeting with the Taliban. This has also been announced.

According to information given by the US State Department, the US will hold the first meeting with senior Taliban leaders in Doha, the capital of Qatar. This meeting will take place at the end of this week. The meeting between the US and the Taliban will include many agendas. The purpose of this meeting will be to evacuate foreign nationals trapped in Afghanistan, the statement said. Apart from this, the US will also pressurize the Taliban on the issues of women’s rights and their safety in Afghanistan.

The US was told that the meeting on Saturday and Sunday does not indicate that it is recognizing the Taliban regime in Afghanistan. The US spokesman said that we are clear about the fact that the Taliban will have to gain our legitimacy through their work.

The meeting will help Taliban leaders focus on commitments to allow Americans and other foreign nationals to leave Afghanistan. As well as those Afghans who once worked for the US military or government and other Afghan allies.

A State Department spokesman said the US also wanted to pressure the Taliban to uphold the rights of women and girls. “We will press the Taliban to form an inclusive government with widespread support and respect for the rights of all Afghans, including women and girls,” he said.

However, it is not yet clear who will represent the two sides. Senior US officials, including the head of Central Command, General Frank McKenzie, met with the Taliban in Kabul in August after US troops occupied the airport for an airlift.

A US spokesman has said that the Taliban have cooperated to a great extent in allowing American citizens to leave Afghanistan. It has also said that while most Afghan allies could not be evacuated during a hasty airlift in August, the US evacuated thousands of people from Kabul before the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan.
