In the issue published today in the Official Gazette of Algeria, within the scope of the decision taken by the President on September 26, “Abdulhamid Abdavi’s duty as Ambassador in the Kingdom of Morocco has been terminated.” statements were included.
The decree did not include any details regarding the termination of Abdavi, who has been serving as Algeria’s Ambassador to Rabat since November 2019.
In the related decree, no new appointment was made to replace Abdavi.
Algeria recalled its ambassador from Rabat on 18 July for consultation, following the statements of Morocco’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) Omar Khalil, supporting the independence of the pro-secession Al-Kabail Movement in the country.
At a press conference on 24 August, Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtan Lamamra announced that his country had decided to cut diplomatic relations with Morocco due to “hostile acts”.
