Algerian official television announced in the evening from Friday to Saturday that Prime Minister Aymen Ben Abderrahmane had contracted the coronavirus.
“The results of the examination carried out on Saturday confirm that Prime Minister Aymen Ben Abderrahmane was infected with the virus,” state television announced, relaying an official communication from the presidency of the government.
“Complying with medical instructions, the Prime Minister entered a 7-day quarantine, effective today, awaiting another examination at the end of this period. Ben Aberrahmane will continue his work remotely, ”adds the same source.
Remember that the Algerian Prime Minister is the second senior official in the Algerian state to contract the coronavirus after President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, last October. The latter had been transferred to Germany for treatment.
In this context, the Algerian presidency announced on Saturday the strict reactivation of the preventive measures taken since the start of the epidemic, such as the wearing of masks, social distancing, and the generalization of the use of disinfectants, in addition to accelerating the pace of vaccination.
The presidency affirmed in a press release published on its Facebook page that this panoply of measures was decided at the end of a meeting held between Tebboune and the members of the scientific committee for monitoring the pandemic.
It was also decided, according to the press release, “to increase the capacity of hospitals from 7 to 15%, especially in large cities, such as Algiers, Oran (west) and Constantine (east)”.

Algeria recorded 813 Covid infections on Saturday, including 13 deaths and 528 cases of recovery, according to data from the Ministry of Health.
