An Alabama man was arrested and charged with forcing his son to ingest narcotics, causing him to overdose and kill him.while two neighbors also received felony charges, according to authorities.
The subject identified as Landon Tyler Rader, 26, was found lifeless inside a house on March 27 after allegedly his father, Jamie Landon Rader, 48, and his neighbors Ryan Dustin Clark, 24, and Tonya Raye Keene, 43, forced him to take methamphetamine and/or amphetamine, according to the Walker County Sheriff’s Office.
The three involved were formally accused of felony manslaughter, manslaughter, and unlawful distribution of a controlled substance with the intent to distributereported New York Post.
They have each been set on $250,000 bond while they have been in custody since Sunday at the Walker County Jail.
Sheriff Nick Smith said at a news conference Monday that it marks the first time murder charges have been filed as a result of a drug overdose in Walker County history.
Authorities had to do a very specific investigation that took months to determine what happened to Rader, who appeared not to have suffered a typical overdose when he arrived on scene, according to the office.
“What makes this more significant than a regular overdose is that it was a forced ingestion”Smith declared. “This was not just an individual who voluntarily took a controlled substance.”
According to Captain Darrell Mote, Rader was not only forced to consume the drugs, but when he saw him dying, none of the three involved called 911, and added that had he made the call, or provided Narcan, Rader would still be alive.
During the investigation, Jamie Landon Rader was criticized for the death of his son, and he was blamed, something he vehemently denied.
“I just lost my son, I can’t cry, I can’t have peace, nothing is incomplete”, the suspect wrote on Facebook on March 30. “There are some people who spread rumors and lies. I’m going through enough, thank you. Keep the conspiracy to yourself.”
