Turkey expects that in order to establish peace and tranquility in the region, the Greek side will act within the framework of good neighborly relations and in compliance with the norms of international law. This was stated by the Minister of National Defense of Turkey Hulusi Akar at the ceremony of awarding the title of honorary doctor and the beginning of the new academic year at Erciyes University in Kayseri.
The head of the defense department drew attention to the increase in the number of exercises by Greece, as well as to the destabilizing actions of the Greek side that have taken place in the region recently.
Turkey is in favor of a peaceful settlement of all problems, including in the Aegean Sea, the Eastern Mediterranean and Cyprus, the minister said.
“We strive to resolve the problems within the framework of good-neighborly relations and the norms of international law, we are making efforts in this direction. We expect that in the name of establishing peace and stability in the region, our Greek neighbors will also act within the same framework. Turkey does not lay claim to anyone’s lands and does not violate anyone’s rights. However, we are determined and have every opportunity to defend the rights and interests of ourselves and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean regions, ”Akar said.
The head of the defense department also noted the success of the anti-terrorist operations of the Turkish Armed Forces in northern Iraq and Syria.
According to him, thanks to the successful operations of the Turkish Armed Forces, the security of the residents of these regions was ensured, and the efforts of terrorists to create a terrorist corridor near the southern borders of the country were blocked.
“Turkey will continue operations until the last terrorist is killed, while respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of its neighbors. Here I would like to highlight one point in particular. We are fighting only terrorism and terrorists. Our goal is where the terrorists are, ”Akar stressed.
Touching upon the topic of provocations of Armenia on the border with Azerbaijan, the head of the defense department stated that Ankara attaches great importance to stability in the Caucasus and makes every effort to ensure peace in this region.
“Fraternal Azerbaijan liberated its lands, Karabakh from under 30-year occupation during the 44-day operation“ United Homeland ”. Turkey, which took the side of Azerbaijan in its rightful cause, will continue to support its brothers in accordance with the principle of “One nation, two states,” the minister said.
