Afghan president says security forces will be reorganized

Kabul: Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has said the first priority is to reorganize the country’s security forces. The president’s policy came amid reports that the Afghan capital, Kabul, could soon be captured by the Taliban. Ashraf Ghani made the statement while addressing the nation, AFP news agency reported.

“The first priority of the country is to reorganize our security forces and defense forces in the current situation. Serious steps will be taken in this regard,” Ashraf Ghani said while addressing the nation on television.

Earlier, it was reported that the president may resign under the current circumstances. But there was no hint of resignation in Gani’s speech. But the president said he was trying to end the war and that talks were underway.

“As a historic mission, I will not allow this war, which has been imposed on the people, to cause more deaths,” the Afghan president said. Meanwhile, various embassies are preparing to evacuate delegates from the area amid fears that the Kabul Taliban may soon seize control.

The Taliban captured the main Afghan cities of Kandahar and Herat the previous day. Kandahar is known as the financial capital of the country.
