The process of updating Aadhaar is easy. The government has extended the deadline for updating Aadhaar for free several times. Last time in September 2024, UIDAI has fixed December 14, 2024 as the deadline for updating Aadhaar’s demographic details such as identity and address proof documents. This means that now Aadhaar holders will be able to upload their identity and address related documents without any fee till 14th December.
Earlier, UIDAI had extended the deadline for updating documents related to demographic details of Aadhaar for free from 15 December 2023 to 14 March 2024, then to 14 June 2024 and again to 14 September 2024. Why is updation of Aadhaar details necessary?

Free facilities will continue to be available on this portal
The facility to update Aadhaar details (Aadhaar-card) and necessary documents for free will now be available through myAadhaar portal till December 14, 2024. To avail this facility you can visit myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in. This decision to extend the deadline for updating Aadhaar details for free is part of the government’s effort to improve administrative processes. These documents will be needed
Ration card, voter identity card, government issued identity card and address proof such as residence certificate, passport are valid as proof of both identity and address.
PAN card, driving license, secondary or senior school marksheet or school leaving certificate with photograph, identity card or certificate issued by the government – are only valid as proof of identity.
Electricity/Water/Gas Bill (last 3 months), Bank-Post Office Passbook, Rent/Lease/Leave and License Agreement are valid only as proof of address.

If you have requested for change of address, you can check the status of the request through Update Request Number (URN).
Documents can be submitted online on myAadhaar portal or by visiting any Aadhaar centre. However, for submitting supporting documents with the help of Aadhaar Centre, a fee of Rs 50 will also have to be paid.
