The operations at a casino and two hospitals suffered cyber attacks over the weekend in New Yorkthe authorities reported.
The Big Apple Gaming Commission confirmed that its operating system central that serves in the slot rooms was affected by a cybersecurity attackwhich forced them to close the Jake 58 casino in Iceland, Suffolk county.
“On Tuesday, October 17, 2023, Everi, the authorized operator of the New York video lottery central gaming system, experienced a cybersecurity event that remains under investigation”said Gaming Commission spokesperson Brad Maione.
“The Commission has no indication that personally identifiable information has been compromised. The Commission continues to monitor the situation.”
He HealthAlliance Hospital and Margaretville Hospital in the Hudson Valley were also forced to refer patients elsewhere over the weekend after the cybersecurity incidents. Besides, cyberattack affected Mountinside nursing home.
Both hospitals remained open during the diversionand walk-in patients were treated, stabilized and discharged or stabilized, according to a statement by Westchester Medical Center Health Network, which oversees the medical facilities.
Ambulance services could finally be restored at 7:00 pm on Saturday.
“To address the threat and take the necessary steps to fully restore our secure network, on Friday, October 20, our IT experts shut down all connected IT systems at HealthAlliance Hospital, Margaretville Hospital and Mountainside Residential Care Center.”
“We then began to strengthen our IT systems, a process that is ongoing, but we have recovered all the necessary capacities to resume operations complete.”
For his part, WMCHealth Chief Strategy Officer Josh Ratner said the following:
“I want to applaud everyone at HealthAlliance Hospital, Margaretville Hospital and Mountainside Residential Care Center for all of their hard work and dedication while facing an incredibly difficult situation, helping us return to full operations ahead of schedule, while continuing to provide the best possible care to the patients of our community.”
“This helped demonstrate the strength of the entire WMCHealth networkwith hospitals, doctors, nurses and administrators across the network playing a vital role to ensure our patients received care As we worked to recover full operations, resume patient admission and minimize any issues from this disruption”.
This is not the first cyberattack suffered by the New York hospital system, in 2022 the One Brooklyn Health system which oversees the Jewish hospitals of Brookdale, Interdaith and Kingdbrook They were attacked in the same way.
