In Vietnam, Lion Championship – Lion Martial Arts Championship (English name: Lion Championship) after 3 years of launch received great attention from fans as well as experts. With many fascinating matches, Lion Championship is considered one of the opportunities for boxers to participate in the professional model.
It is expected that by 2025 Lion Championship will organize 9 events in cities: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Cam Banh City (Khanh Hoa), Phu Quoc City (Kien Giang). Based on the actual conditions of athletes training units, professional and practical martial arts martial artists in Vietnam, VMMAF has approved the proposal to expand the Lion Championship competition with 4 new formats (testing) including: Lion MMA standing (Striking), Lion MMA War (Ground Fight), Lion MMA Song (Duo) (Gauntlet).
MMA will test 4 new formats in Lion Championship
In 2025, MMA continued to implement the goal of organizing competition with three main spearheads: Developing a high -achievement MMA competition system, focusing on the National Martial Arts Club Cup of 2025; Preparing forces competing for the Asian Mixed Martial Arts Association (ASIAN Mixed Martial Association), aiming to attend the Asian Games 2026 (ASIAD 20) and organize the professional MMA System Lion Championship. In particular, the National Martial Arts Club Cup 2025 was issued by the MMA Federation on December 3, 2024 and is expected to take place from 23 to 29.6 in Hanoi, with competition content in 3 groups of age, 9 weight classes.
Notably, on March 2.3, the Asian Olympic Council officially confirmed ASIAD 20 (in Aichi – Nagoya, Japan) will organize a general martial arts competition in 2 formats: modern MMA and traditional MMA with 6 male and female weight classes. These are the two formats held by the Asian MMA Association (AMMA) at the MMA Asian Championships in Thailand (2023) and Cambodia (2024). The Vietnam General Martial Arts Federation (VMMAF) has been a member of AMMA since its establishment.
In 2023, the Vietnamese athlete attended the MMA Asian Championship and competed very well, ranked 4th in the whole team with a record of 1 gold medal, 1 gold medal, 2 bronze medals. Therefore, along with the 2025 National MMA Club Cup is present in the National Sports Program issued by the Department of Sports and Sports, MMA appeared at ASIAD 20 showed a clear roadmap for high -performance athletes in the future.
