Speaking before the United Nations Security Council on January 8, US Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations Dorothy Camille Shea alleged that there were more than 12,000 North Korean soldiers in Russia and last month began fighting with the host army to deal with the situation. “North Korea is reaping significant benefits from receiving military equipment, technology and experience in this field, thereby allowing Pyongyang to have more capacity when it needs to declare war on neighboring countries,” Reuters on January 9 quoted Ms. Shea.
“North Korea will likely be willing to use improvements (on the battlefield) to promote arms sales and sign military training contracts globally,” according to the US Deputy Ambassador.

The meeting attended by 15 members of the United Nations Security Council was convened after Pyongyang announced it had tested a new medium-range hypersonic ballistic missile on January 6.
North Korean Ambassador to the United Nations Kim Song called the missile test part of a plan to strengthen the Northeast Asian country’s defense capabilities. Mr. Kim Song also accused the US of having double standards.
“While more than 45,000 civilians died in Gaza, the US painted Israel’s brutal act of mass murder as the right to self-defense…Meanwhile, the country has problems when North Korea enforces legitimate right of self-defense,” the North Korean diplomat told the Security Council.
Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vassily Nebenzia reiterated the Moscow government’s long-standing accusations that the US, South Korea and Japan always provoke North Korea with military exercises. He also rejected Washington’s accusations that Moscow intends to share satellite and space technology with Pyongyang.
