The strongest fire broke out in the luxurious Pacific Palisades residential area, then another large fire burned more than 400 hectares in Eaton Canyon, northeast of Pasadena City, California, followed by 2 fires on the outskirts of the San Fernando Valley, NBC News reported.
California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a statewide emergency as nearly 30,000 people had to evacuate from the area affected by the fire. At least 220,000 households and businesses lost power. Firefighters worked hard to put out the fire, but experts said dry weather and the Santa Ana monsoon with wind gusts of up to 160 km/h made the fire more serious. According to Reuters, there were several injuries, including a firefighter. Firefighters said the immediate priority is to evacuate and assist people, while admitting they were unable to control the fire in a short time.
The US Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced the approval of a financial support plan for affected areas. US President Joe Biden said he has offered to provide all necessary federal assistance to put out the fire.
