Sheet Khmer Times On January 8, it was reported that authorities in Bangkok (Thailand) had identified the suspect in the assassination of Cambodian politician Lim Kimya as a former Ekalak marine of the Royal Thai Navy.
A court in Thailand ordered the arrest of veteran Ekalak on charges of intentional murder, illegal possession of weapons and shooting in public places.
The assassination occurred at a crowded location in Bangkok, where Mr. Lim Kimya (74 years old) was shot. Mr. Lim also has French citizenship and is a former parliamentarian of an opposition party that dissolved in 2017.
Mr. Lim was injured in his right side and shoulder. Despite immediate first aid with cardiopulmonary resuscitation efforts, he died at the scene.
According to information from the police, Mr. Lim had previously traveled by bus from Siem Reap with his French wife. Before arriving, a man riding a Honda Wave 100 suddenly approached, opened fire and then ran away.
Security camera images captured important moments before the shooting. The suspect wearing a gray short-sleeved shirt, jeans, helmet and carrying a chest bag arrived at the scene at 5:26 p.m. on January 7.
The video shows him removing his helmet and sitting on the motorbike for several minutes before crossing the street at 5:39 p.m., the time of the attack.
Immediately after the above assassination, Lieutenant General Siam Boonsom, director of the Bangkok Metropolitan Police Department, directed the opening of an investigation. The motive for the crime is currently unknown.
