Police on January 7 said Mr. Truong was arrested and charged with soliciting prostitution, illegally using another person’s vehicle and conducting transactions using money from drug sales, CBS News reported. Mr. Tyrin Truong (25 years old) became the youngest mayor of Bogalusa city after winning in 2022.
The Louisiana State Police Violent Crimes and Drug Task Force began a comprehensive investigation in April 2024 into a drug trafficking organization operating in Bogalusa.
The investigation discovered that the above organization was distributing many different types of drugs, including opium and high-grade marijuana. This organization used social networks to distribute drugs and collect money. The profits are used to buy weapons. Some weapons were delivered to individuals who were prohibited from possessing or had been involved in violent crimes.
During the investigation, authorities issued 7 arrest warrants, including Mayor Tyrin Truong and 6 other people, all charged with conducting transactions using money from drug sales. The seven will be held at Washington Parish Prison in Louisiana. Mr. Truong was detained on January 7.
Louisiana District Attorney Collin Sims accused Mr. Truong of using public funds to pay a prostitute while attending a mayors’ conference. Mr. Truong was not charged with drug distribution. “We will continue to invest time and resources to help the people of Bogalusa. We are not done yet,” Mr. Sims said. In 2023, Louisiana will record more than 2,400 drug-related deaths. .
