CES kicks off a year that promises to be one of the most technological in history. The most influential consumer electronics fair in the world, which takes place between January 7 and 10 in Las Vegas, is the stage in which some of the most innovative devices and technologies on the planet will be shown, in addition to bringing together to the most prominent technological leaders of the moment.
“Around the world we are seeing technology and innovations that are redefining industries and helping people solve big global challenges, and that will be on full display at CES,” said Kinsey Fabrizio, president of the CTA (the association of technology companies). of the United States, which organizes the CES). Hundreds of companies from more than 160 countries, territories and regions will present their advances in key areas such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, mobility, sustainability or digital health.
Artificial intelligence
Artificial intelligence has played a key role in recent editions of CES and, according to the organizers, it will once again be the main protagonist this year. “While many headlines focus on what artificial intelligence ‘could do’ or its applications for the future, this technology is already making its mark today through increased productivity, better customer experience and medical advances that save lives,” they explain from the CTA.
Among the companies that will show their AI advances at CES, Accenture, AMD, Smartsound and Wyebot stand out. At an event called the house of AIwill explore how this technology is revolutionizing various industries. The latest advances in AI, the competition between generative language models, the use of assistants and how this technology can shape the future of work, entertainment or media will be addressed.
AI has already revolutionized areas such as health, education, business, transportation, entertainment, finance, agriculture, security, scientific research and home robotics. Among the exhibitors at the CES, Roborock stands out, for example, which has invited Morning Express to the CES. This company was born in 2014 when Richard Chang set out to build the most intelligent robot vacuum cleaner in the world. Ten years later, its robot vacuum cleaners are equipped with AI to navigate and clean autonomously, adapting to different surfaces and avoiding obstacles.
From quantum to the future of mobility
CES will also host two “very important conferences focused on future topics,” according to CTA CEO Gary Shapiro. One of them is about quantum computing, which the expert refers to as “the future of technology”: “If you think AI is fast, wait until you see quantum. AI can focus, for example, on finding various types of potential cures. Quantum will put them to the test.” The other conference will address the creation, production and conservation of energy. “With quantum technology, electric cars and generative AI, a lot of electricity is used and, frankly, we need more electricity,” explains Shapiro.
The future of mobility will be precisely one of the central themes of the CES. Hyundai Motor Group’s Advanced Air Mobility company surprised in the 2024 edition with a taxi capable of flying at 193 kilometers per hour. But, although flying taxis are a recurring promise at the world’s largest technology fair, they still have to overcome some obstacles to be able to take to the skies in today’s world.
In this edition, in addition to flying taxis, solutions will be presented for electric vehicles and to improve road safety and reduce risks on the roads. Along with leading companies such as Waymo and Honda, construction technology companies such as Oshkosh and agricultural technology companies such as John Deere and Caterpillar will be present at the fair.
Digital health
As the CTA points out, technology also has “the potential to transform healthcare as we know it.” CES attracts companies from around the world seeking to improve health equity, reduce costs, provide essential care to underserved communities, and give patients greater control over their health. Among the prominent exhibitors in this field are EssilorLuxottica, OnMed, Nuvilab, Withings, WHOOP, ResMed or Eli Lilly.
In this edition, there will also be several conferences that will address the future of brain-computer interfaces. We will discuss how these technologies can improve neurological rehabilitation and help restore motor and sensory functions. It will also discuss how wearable devices can improve mental well-being and productivity and explore the impact of neurotechnology on the diagnosis and treatment of neurological diseases.
Featured speakers at CES 2025
The CES is also the meeting point for technological giants such as LG, Samsung, Siemens and Panasonic and many of the leaders who will set the course for an increasingly technological future. Featured speakers this year include Dan Clancy, CEO of Twitch; Yann LeCun, chief AI scientist at Meta; Josh Simon, vice president of consumer products at Netflix; and Patrick Brady, vice president of Android Automotive at Google. Also attending the fair will be space leaders such as Sharon Cobb, NASA associate program director for the Space Launch System, and Howard Hu, head of NASA’s Orion program.
