Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Emergency Affairs said the Azerbaijan Airlines passenger plane was traveling from Baku to the Grozny region in Russia’s Chechen Republic. However, the plane had to change direction because of fog in Grozny.
Initial information is said to indicate there are survivors, according to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Emergency Affairs.

It is unclear what caused the plane to crash, as well as how many people survived.
An official source of the ministry said fire units sought to extinguish the fire where the plane crashed.

There is no information about the incident from Azerbaijan Airlines.
Kazakh media reported that the plane was carrying 105 passengers and 5 crew members.
Up to now, Kazakh officials said there are 6 survivors. Rescue and firefighting work continues.
Azerbaijan Airlines confirmed the plane crash, and said there were 72 people in the cabin at the time of the crash.
