Users of the most used messaging application in the world are fond of audio: 7 billion voice messages are sent every day via WhatsApp. For those who cannot or do not want to hear all those words, Mark Zuckerberg’s company has incorporated a new function that converts audio messages into text in its application for iPhone and Android devices.
The transcription tool will allow users to read the content of the messages in situations where it is impossible to listen to the audios. The transcribed notes will remain on the device and will be protected by the app’s end-to-end encryption.
The company announced a few weeks ago that these transcriptions would be officially rolled out worldwide in the coming weeks and that it will be available in Spanish, English, Portuguese and even Russian. “We plan to add more in the coming months,” the courier company advances in a statement. The option is now available, what do you have to do to enjoy it?
How do I activate transcripts?
To use the tool, the first thing is to update to the latest version of WhatsApp, so that this new function is loaded.

- Now, select the language.
In order to view the audio transcriptions it is necessary:
- Press and hold a voice message, then tap the three dots from the upper right corner.
- Select Transcribe.
- It takes a few seconds for the transcript to appear.
- If it is a long message, touch the ˅ icon in the message to show more text from the transcript.
