Pressure on retail sector
According to the brokerage, banks have withdrawn from lending due to various reasons. Due to lack of liquidity and the need to balance the loan-deposit ratio, banks have reduced lending. The retail sector has had to bear the brunt of this risk averse tendency.
The cautious attitude of banks has had an impact on consumer demand. The slowdown in unsecured lending is well documented. But some feedback indicates that credit standards have been tightened, even in low-risk areas like auto loans. Due to this, cases of rejection of loan applications have increased. In such an environment, overall consumer demand pressure has increased.

Demand expected to improve in 2026
The management is optimistic about improvement in demand in financial year 2026. Some of this is based on expectations that the headwinds on income and inflation will be abating in the near term. However, some early indicators (such as the number of customers in passenger car showrooms) also indicate that demand recovery may start in 2-3 quarters. However, smaller staples companies are growing and are not facing the same growth challenges as larger competitors.

real estate cycle strong
As of now, the real estate cycle is strong. Demand remains very strong and the absorption rate for new launches remains very good. There are no significant challenges in execution. The availability of post RERA finance has improved significantly. Man power and logistics are also not presenting any challenge.
Expectation of demand improvement in IT
IT companies expect improvement in demand in the year 2025. Discretionary spending should start to pick up in the US after Donald Trump comes to power, especially if the tax cuts are implemented soon. Investors are cautious about the market, but also remain optimistic. The decline in earnings in Q2FY25 points to some near-term concerns. However, there are positive views regarding India’s long term growth story.
