The 15th day of the French League, Ligue 1, was shaken by two episodes of homophobia that altered the development of two of its most important matches. At PSG-Lyon, held in Paris, the game had to be temporarily suspended due to homophobic chants that were uttered from the ultra sector of the local team. On the other hand, in the duel between Marseille and Lille, homophobic insults by local fans against the visitors were reported to the city prosecutor’s office.
The situation was very delicate in the country. Exactly in the 51st minute, the referee of the match, Benoît Bastien, made the decision to stop the match when it was 2-1 in favor of PSG until the chants did not stop. The diary L’Equipe reflected on its website that one of the songs was “les lyonnais sont des salopes” (“the Lyonnaises are bitches”). Immediately, three players from the Parisian team, Achraf Hakimi, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Vitinha, went to the sector of the stands involved, the area of their club’s radicals, to ask that the chanting and insults stop.
In purely sporting terms, PSG left behind its last two consecutive defeats and signed a balmy victory, 3-1 against a fifth-placed Lyon. Ousmané Dembélé, Vitinha and Gonçalo Ramos scored the goals for the Parisians, who increased their difference with Marseille to seven points. The Marseille team tied 1-1 with Lille in the other duel where there were also problems due to homophobic chants.
