Delhi residents heaved a sigh of relief on Thursday as the national capital’s air quality index improved to the ‘moderate’ category after the city experienced persistent air pollution last month.
According to Central Pollution Control Board data, as of 8 am the overall air quality index (AQI) in Delhi was recorded at 161, which is classified as moderate. However, as soon as winter started, a thin layer of smog covered the city. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the minimum temperature in Delhi today was 9 degrees Celsius with haze in the air.
According to CPCB data, till 8 am, AQI was 178 in Anand Vihar, 194 in Chandni Chowk, 130 in ITO, 152 in Wazirpur, 147 in Okhla Phase 2, 145 in Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, 164 in Patparganj, 107 in Aya Nagar, 128 at Lodhi Road, 162 more at IGI Airport It was 152 in Punjabi Bagh.
However, AQI was recorded at 204 in areas like RK Puram, 222 in Mundka, 249 in Shadipur, 247 in Nahru Nagar and 206 in Jahangirpuri, which has been classified as poor.
