The Indian Navy on Wednesday test-fired the 3,500-km K-4 ballistic missile from the newly commissioned nuclear submarine INS Arighat.
According to defense sources, the test results are being analyzed, after which the concerned officials will inform the top military and political leadership. The test is important to validate the country’s second-strike capability. The Indian Navy commissioned the submarine at the shipbuilding center in Visakhapatnam in August.
According to sources, before the full-range testing of the missile, DRDO had conducted extensive trials of firing the missile from underwater platforms. Indian Navy is planning to test more missile systems. The Navy has two nuclear submarines capable of firing ballistic missiles, which include INS Arihant and Arighat. The third boat has also been launched and it is expected that it will be inducted next year.
