Fact Check: This video of stone pelting is not from the Sambhal violence, know the whole truth
A video is becoming increasingly viral on social media, this video is of a crowd gathered on the road. Along with this, it can be seen in the video that the police is seen using sticks to disperse the crowd. The same video is being shared on social media claiming that the crowd in Sambhal was not creating any disturbance but despite this the police lathicharged the crowd.
After sharing the viral video on Facebook, it is written in the Hindi language caption that “Watch the brutality of Uppolice in Sambhal in this video. The protesters were not pelting stones at anyone, nor were they committing violence. Despite this the police lathicharged. Violence did not happen just like that! Has violence been carried out? @India_NHRC @indSupremeCourt take cognizance of this.”

Fact Check:
During Newsmobile’s investigation, we found out that the viral video is not from recent times and this video is not of the incident that took place in Sambhal.
After seeing this video viral on social media, we feared that it was old. After which we started our investigation. First we broke the viral video into a few keyframes and then started searching through the Google Lens tool.
During our search we found a viral video posted on Twitter called The Hawk Eye. Which was uploaded on November 24, 2024. While sharing the viral video, it has been told that the viral video is from the protest against CAA/NRC in Gorakhpur during the year 2019.
Observe this video carefully. After cops resorted to lathicharge and mob started disbursing, a few of them formed a ducking-wall to retain the position. The formation worked for a while but couldn’t sustain. This is trained mob. They are ready to die.

To confirm the above fact, we started searching closely on Google. During the search we found another video matching the viral video, which was uploaded by a Twitter handle named MD Asif khan on December 21, 2019. Although this video was slightly different from the viral video but after comparing some things of the video we found that both the videos are from the same place. Let us tell you that the above video has been described as the incident in Gorakhpur.
