Air quality in Delhi is in ‘severe’ category, AQI crosses 400
With increasing cold in the country’s capital Delhi, the risk of pollution is also increasing. The air quality in the capital remained in the severe category for the fifth consecutive day. Fog was seen today i.e. Sunday morning also. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi’s AQI remains in the ‘severe’ category in many areas.

The state of pollution in the capital is such that the air quality crossed 400 on Sunday. Apart from this, there were more than 10 such areas in Delhi where AQI reached dangerous levels. Dwarka-Sector 8, Delhi – DPCC Dwarka -443 AQI, NSIT Dwarka, Delhi – CPCB Dwarka- 406 AQI, West Delhi-426, DPCC West Delhi-406, Shadipur 457, 448 in Shivaji Park, highest in Bhim Nagar and Mundka area. AQI was as high as 465. Whereas, 430 in Delhi Milk Scheme Colony, 435 in RK Puram, 436 in Sri Aurobindo Marg, 423 in Aya Nagar, 378 in Lodhi Road, Najafgarh 399, Wazirpur 463, Chandni Chowk 368, Gokalpuri 375, Ashok Vihar 449, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. 366, Rohini 449 and ITO recorded very poor AQI at 410.
According to media reports, 37% of the pollution in Delhi is caused by stubble burning in Delhi and surrounding states. At the same time, 12% of pollution is due to carbon emissions from vehicles.
It is noteworthy that the third phase of Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) has been implemented from November 15 to reduce pollution in Delhi. There is a provision to ban vehicles causing more pollution. On the first day of implementation of GRAP, the traffic police issued around 550 challans and collected a fine of Rs 5.85 crore.
