Nintendo has revealed the next phase of Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan in Osaka: during a Nintendo Direct, the company offered a first look at the new area dedicated to Donkey Kong Country, which will officially open its doors on December 11th. Among the main attractions, an adrenaline-pumping roller coaster aboard a mine cart and a real version of Donkey Konga, the famous musical game, which can even be played by three. The area, reached through a rocky tunnel that leads to a lush jungle, is a riot of detail that will delight fans. An impressive treehouse, a golden temple emitting steam and an abundance of banana-flavoured sweets add to the magical atmosphere.
And just like in video games, visitors will be able to hunt for giant letters hidden in the area, using the park’s NFC bracelet. There will be no shortage of new Donkey Kong themed bracelets to collect and an animatronic Cranky Kong ready to dispense wisdom and grumbles. This expansion, announced in 2021, is part of a larger plan by Nintendo to become a 360-degree entertainment company, expanding beyond the world of video games with films, theme parks and initiatives such as the Nintendo Museum in Kyoto inaugurated in October. While the wait for the new Nintendo console continues, the company never ceases to amaze fans with innovative and engaging experiences, and Donkey Kong seems only the first of many new worlds ready to come to life in Super Nintendo World.
