Apple introduced the new Mac mini, equipped with the M4 and M4 Pro chips, designed to guarantee high performance in an even more compact format, with dimensions of 12.7 cm per side. The M4 chip model offers up to 1.8x faster CPU performance and up to 2.2x GPU boost compared to the M1 chip version. The M4 Pro chip, an enhanced version of the M4, supports more demanding workloads, with faster speed in multithreaded operations and an improved GPU for advanced graphics applications. For the first time on Mac mini, the M4 Pro chip also supports Thunderbolt 5 technology for faster data transfer.
Connectivity-wise, the Mac mini features ports on both the front and back, with three Thunderbolt 4 ports on the M4 model and three Thunderbolt 5 ports on the M4 Pro model. An HDMI port and a configurable Gigabit Ethernet port are also included up to 10 Gb for greater network speed. The base model with the M4 chip supports up to two 6K monitors, while the M4 Pro version handles up to three 6K monitors at 60Hz. The device was designed to work with Apple Intelligence, the company’s artificial intelligence system, which allows new ways of interacting and using the computer, with an eye on user privacy thanks to predominantly on-device processing. New features will also be available, including ChatGPT integration into Siri and writing tools, with enhanced privacy protections.
On the sustainability front, the new Mac mini marks an important milestone for Apple: it is the first carbon-neutral Mac, with a reduction in emissions of over 80% thanks to recycled materials, renewable energy production, and low-emission shipping of carbon. The device’s packaging is made entirely of fiber, in line with the company’s goal of eliminating plastic from packaging by 2025. The macOS Sequoia operating system completes the Mac mini experience, introducing features such as the new Safari, with advanced reading and distraction control modes, and improvements in spatial audio and gaming. The new Password app allows you to store your credentials in one place and new wallpapers have been introduced for video calls. Customers can order the new Mac mini with M4 and M4 Pro today, with deliveries starting November 8. The price starts from €729 for the model with M4 chip and from €1,679 for the M4 Pro model, with discounted rates for the Education sector.
