Although the launch was originally scheduled for 2024, the long-awaited Analogue 3D console will finally see the light of day in the first months of 2025. This new technological jewel, inspired by the legendary Nintendo 64, will be available at a price of $249.99 and can be pre-ordered at starting October 21, 2024 in the States. Enthusiasts will be able to choose between two color variants, black or white. The console is not supported or approved by Nintendo, but it is a product designed exclusively for retro gamers.
The Analogue 3D represents a modern evolution of one of the most beloved consoles of the 90s. Following the example of Analogue’s previous creations, such as the NES, SNES, Sega Genesis and Game Boy reinterpretations, this new console promises to revive classic N64 games with improved visual quality, offering up to 4K resolution. Users will also have the option to select different viewing modes, including a filter that simulates the effect of old CRT TVs, for those who want an authentic nostalgic experience. At the heart of this technology is a custom-designed 4K upscaler.
One of the most interesting features of the Analogue 3D is its complete compatibility with the entire Nintendo 64 game library, thanks to FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) technology. This makes it one of the few modern solutions capable of faithfully replicating the functionality of the original console, a feat that, until now, has proven difficult for most emulators. The console will also feature Bluetooth connectivity, four ports for the original N64 controllers, two USB ports and an SD card slot, making it versatile and easily adaptable to the needs of modern gamers. Additionally, the Analogue 3D will introduce a new operating system, called 3D OS, designed to improve the console’s usability and user interface.
While the console does not include a stock controller, an updated gamepad was developed by 8bitdo, a company known for its high-quality retro controllers. This new controller, which will be sold separately for $39.99, reinterprets the design of the classic N64 pad, eliminating the third grip and introducing a Hall effect analog stick. It will also be compatible with other platforms, including Nintendo Switch, Android and PC. Anyone who still owns the original N64 controllers will be able to easily use them with Analogue 3D, thanks to the integrated ports.
