Train accident in West Bengal :A major railway accident has taken place in West Bengal. In this accident that took place in the Darjeeling district of the state, there is news of a fierce collision between the Kanchenjunga Express and a goods train. This accident took place at Ruidhasa near Rangapani station under Siliguri subdivision of Darjeeling district. At least 5 people are reported to have died and 25-30 people are reported to be injured in the accident. Indian Railways has issued two helpline numbers to provide assistance and information to the victims and their families in this accident. These numbers are 033-235-08-794 and 033-238-33-326. Additional SP of Darjeeling Police Abhishek Roy, who reached the spot, said that at least five passengers died in the accident and 25-30 people were injured. Roy said that the situation at the spot seems to be very serious.

This accident happened on Monday morning when a massive collision took place between the Sealdah bound Kanchenjunga Express and a goods train near New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal. The collision was so severe that many coaches of the train derailed and some coaches were seen hanging in the air. A large number of passengers are feared to be injured in the accident. According to PTI, this collision between 13174 Agartala-Kanchenjunga Express and goods train took place at 9 am near Rangapani, some distance away from New Jalpaiguri station. According to the information received so far, the goods train coming at a high speed hit the Kanchenjunga Express from behind. The collision was so terrible that in the pictures of the accident, the engine of the goods train is seen stuck under the coaches of Kanchenjunga Express and above it some coaches of the train are seen hanging in the air.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed grief over the incident and said that rescue and relief operations are underway. The Chief Minister has written in a social media post, “I am shocked to know about the tragic train accident that has just happened in Phansidewa area of Darjeeling district. Detailed information is awaited, but Kanchenjunga Express has reportedly been hit by a freight train. DM, SP, doctors, ambulances and disaster teams have reached the spot for rescue, relief and medical assistance. Action has been started on a war footing.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said in a statement released on social media platform X after the accident, “Unfortunate accident in NFR zone. Rescue work is going on on war footing. Railways, NDRF and SDRF are working in coordination. The injured are being admitted to the hospital. Senior officials have reached the spot.
