In her most recent musical adventure titled “La Sánchez”, Lila Downs, who is also an anthropologist, singer and composer, delves into the sounds of northern Mexico. Collaborating closely with Orlando Aispuro Meneses, Downs once again showcases her impressive vocal talent and musical vision, establishing herself as one of the world’s leading female voices.
With an extensive musical catalog that includes more than 15 productions throughout almost three decades of career, “La Sánchez” establishes itself as another masterpiece in the downs careeran artist who continues to explore and delve into the rich musical diversity that Mexico has to offer.
Following her characteristic style, “La Sánchez” covers various Mexican musical genres, highlighting her magnificent interpretation of rancheras, norteña cumbia and corridos. On a regular basis, Lila Downs manages to captivate a wide audienceemploying a mix of both complex and simple musical arrangements, accompanied by her evocative storytelling through song.
The artist comments: “Since my childhood, and largely due to the constant migration that characterizes our country, music from the north has always exerted a great influence on the southern regions. This music is extraordinarily rich, and as we are seeing now, it is constantly evolving. ‘La Sánchez’ represents my contribution as a woman from the south who also feels a deep bond with this music, and who hopes to hear more female voices joining this expression.”
On this album, Lila Downs surrounded herself with musical director Orlando Aispuro, who has collaborated with artists such as C. Tangana, Carín León and Pablo Alborán, among others. In keeping with Downs’ distinctive style, the songs on the album span a mix of storied classics, including the likes of José Alfredo Jiménez, Luciano Luna and Leslie Lariam Orduñoas well as recent compositions by young talents, such as Loli Molina.
“Two Hearts” Tour
The release of this new album occurs in the middle of the world tour “Dos Corazones”, which Lila Downs began after the launch of her previous production “From Fine Arts”. This tour took her to countries like Argentina and Colombia, and to appear at the Vive Latino festival, where she had the opportunity to perform for the first time in her own space and collaborate with Los Caligaris, Carin León and the Santa Fe Klan.
Next September 10, lilac downs will offer their first performance in Helsinki, Finland, after having participated in the Spanish edition of the Vive Latino festival in Zaragoza on September 8. In addition, she announced a series of performances in the United States scheduled between September and October. The highly anticipated concert of hers at the National Auditorium in Mexico City is scheduled for November 1, 2023.
