Shahdol | The Madhya Pradesh government has ordered an inquiry into the death of 8 children in a government hospital in Shahdol district within 3 days.
These children were admitted to the Sick Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) and Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) of Shahdol District Hospital.
Shahdol’s Chief Medical and Health Officer Rajesh Pandey said on Tuesday that two more children aged 2 and 3 died on Monday night. These children were brought there for treatment from Anuppur district.
With the death of these two children, 8 children aged 4 months have died between November 27 and November 30. These children were admitted to the SNCU and PICU of the district hospital. Rajesh Pandey said that 33 children are currently admitted in the SNCU and PICU of the district hospital.
Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has ordered an inquiry into the entire matter after the death of two children on Monday night. Chauhan has asked the officials to find out whether these children died due to negligence of medical staff.
Chauhan said that medical experts should be sent from Jabalpur to Shahdol for the treatment of children, if needed. Madhya Pradesh Health Minister Prabhuram Chaudhary said on Tuesday that the Additional Chief Secretary of the Health Department has been asked to investigate the death of children and submit a report soon.
