The low-waist trend invented in the 90s by Alexander McQueen indelibly marked the 2000s, becoming so mainstream that in 2001, even Levi’s introduced the silhouette. Superlow jeans. Today, the low waist is back in a more relaxed shape.
The low waist was the default height of all jeans and trousers, a style feature of celebrities of the time, from Christina Aguilera to Britney Spears and Keira Knightley.

Flared jeans once favored by celebrities like Jennifer Lopez and Britney Spears have been back in vogue since 2020 both on the catwalk from fashion houses Loewe, Gucci and Bottega Veneta as well as in street style. Y2K-style low-waist or high-waisted, more form-fitting or baggy, dark colors or light wax patches and increasingly longer hems to cover shoes. A model that could very well already be in the wardrobe of today’s fashionistas and will be rediscovered in a classic form.

Skinny jeans of the 2000s, a signature style of fashion icons like Kate Moss, are one of this season’s favorite streetwear pieces. Because they have mastered the shape, blending everything perfectly and adding a bold touch to the look naturally. In 2009, Isabel Marant introduced skinny jeans in a wild outfit that included a leopard coat, sheer top, and ankle boots. Jeans with a faded, worn effect – waxed jeans
Used jeans with cuts, tears, dark spots or white spots are a current trend. Fashion house brands like Acne Studios, Balenciaga and Diesel lead this “weird” trend making it so cool. In 2020, Alessandro Michele dyed Gucci jeans with artificial grass patches. Among its 2000s predecessors, Dolce&Gabbana’s torn, dusty brown jeans; and in the 90s, Helmut Lang’s iconic jeans with white paint stains.
