Highly talented youth
The Vietnamese youth chess team sent quite a strong force to participate in the world youth rapid chess and blitz chess championships (for ages U.14, U.16, U.18). 15 Vietnamese players participating in the tournament include: Nguyen Anh Huy, Dinh Nho Kiet, Nguyen Nam Kiet, Dau Khuong Duy, Duong Vu Anh, Nguyen Manh Duc, Nguyen Vuong Tung Lam of U.14 male age group; Banh Gia Huy, Tran Ngoc Minh Duy, U.16 male age group; Le Thai Hoang Anh, Dang Le Xuan Hien, Huynh Phuc Minh Phuong, Vu Nguyen Bao Linh, Nguyen Binh Vy, U.14 girls; Nguyen Ngoc Hien, U.16 female age group.
The player born in 2011, Dau Khuong Duy, played the best when winning double gold medals in rapid chess and blitz chess in the U.14 men’s age group. In rapid chess, Dau Khuong Duy competed with 106 opponents. He started in the 4th seed position. Although he lost to No. 1 seed Haug Havard (Norway), the player from Hanoi played explosively in the remaining 10 games, thereby winning the championship with the best result. 0.5 points difference compared to the opponent.
In the blitz chess event, competing in a total of 22 games, Dau Khuong Duy also showed impressive performance. He successfully collected debt against Haug Harvard, and played fairly (1 win, 1 loss) against No. 1 seed U.14 blitz Averin Nikolay (Russia). Dau Khuong Duy’s stability helped him continuously sit at table number 1 and win the championship with a difference of 0.5 points compared to Averin Nikolay.
Dau Khuong Duy is a “favorite student” of coach Luong Trong Minh from Vietchess training center (Hanoi). Mr. Nguyen Minh Thang, in charge of the chess department of the Department of Physical Training and Sports, said that this player has passion and desire to conquer top chess and has the full support of his family, so he promises to go far.
In addition to Dau Khuong Minh’s brilliant achievement of 2 gold medals, the Vietnamese youth chess team also closed the tournament successfully with rapid chess gold medals from Nguyen Binh Vy (Women’s U.16), Dang Le Xuan Hien (Women’s U.14). ); Blitz chess gold medal of Nguyen Ngoc Hien (U.16 women).
